By our correspondent

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Uyo Branch, on Sunday, 12th January, 2025 held its 2025 Solemn Assembly and Foundation Laying Ceremony of the Gatehouse/Business Centre.

The spiritual exercise which was graced by members of the society, friends and other dignitaries, took place at the NSE Secretariat, Sampson Udo Idiong Avenue, Atan Offot, Uyo.

Addressing the gathering, Chairman of the NSE Uyo Branch, Engr. Emem Ezekiel, MNSE, MNIMechE, emphasized the import of unity towards achieving the plans and goals of the branch.

The Chairman while speaking, acknowledged the spiritual guidance which he noted inspired the theme of the solemn assembly.

He said: “We gather here today, to dedicate our professional affairs and programs for this year into the almighty hands of God. We are reminded of our shared vision to advance our profession, strengthen our branch, and contribute meaningfully to the society.

This solemn assembly is both a moment for reflection and also a call to action. The theme, “Arise! Let’s Build,” encapsulates our collective aspiration to build an enduring legacy for engineering in our state. It challenges us to unite our efforts and channel our skills toward achieving impactful goals. As Psalm 127:1 says, “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.”

On his administration’s goals and vision, the NSE helmsman noted: “We recognize that our efforts must be guided by God’s wisdom and direction. These goals include the completion of our Engineering Centre, the welfare and empowerment of our members, and the elevation of our profession’s relevance in governance and policymaking”.

Engr. Ezekiel further announced that the Spouses’ Meeting Hall, Toilets and other facilities worth millions of Naira, have been completed.

In his homily, the guest minister and Managing Director/CEO of Akwa Ibom Water Company, Pastor Edo Etuk, FNSE, emphasized on the need for all the members of the branch to be united in pursuit of a common goal.

Drawing his inspiration from the Book of Nehemiah 2:18, the guest Pastor noted that everything was achievable were there were faith, love and unity.

Amongst key features of the event were prayers, praises and worship, as well as special hymns.

Highlights of the Solemn Assembly were the unveiling by the NSE Chairman of the 2025 Table Calendar which showcases the branch’s achievements; while the foundation laying ceremony of the Gatehouse/Business Centre was performed by the immediate Past Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works & Fire Service, Akwa Ibom State, Engr John Itiat, FNSE.

It was learnt that the business centre will be offering services such as design, typing and printing, with a view to meeting the needs of members and outsiders.
