Uproar in Akwa Ibom over Gov Eno’s N20b private jet repairs budget

‘Criminals masquerading as politicians’ -Rights Lawyer, Inibehe

By Ime Silas

Indigenes of Akwa Ibom State within and in the diaspora have risen in condemnation of what some of them have described as government’s insensitivity as evidenced in the state budgetary provisions.

According to a document captioned “Items of interest added in Akwa Ibom State 2024 Revised Budget”, the sum of N20B (Twenty billion Naira) was included under ‘Revised Budget’ subhead for the Repairs and Maintenance  of State Aircraft (Governor’s private jet).

The document further shows that the sum of N8bn (eight billion Naira) was originally budgeted for the repairs and maintenance of the said aircraft, but was later adjusted to N12bn (twelve billion Naira) before it was finally raised to twenty billion Naira.

Reacting, an Akwa Ibom-born Activist cum Rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong chided the budgetary provision, questioning why such amount would be allocated just for a private aircraft in a state with alarming unemployment and mass hunger.

He said “Criminals masquerading as politicians are looting Akwa Ibom State resources to death while citizens praise them.

Only a THIEVE will budget N20 billion for “Repairs & Maintenance of State Aircraft (Governor’s Private Jet)” in a State with alarming unemployment and mass hunger”.

For @Prince Effiong Daniel “Over 80% of it indigenes are languishing in other states trying to surviving and many more are dreaming to leave the states in spite of the suffering outside. Home and outside home, none is better.

If you see how Akwaibomites are leaving in other states, it’s so painful. I’ve traveled around the country and it gives me so much pains to see people from the very rich oil states suffering in poverty and trying to survive outside, u go dey vex… Take KANO and LAGOS as a case study,i can bet you, about 5% of those who left for greener PASTURES end up living in…..

Okada we dominate, even aboki no see our back…
House helps na our industry be that….
Traffic hawkers we dey drag am with abakili boys….
Gatemen we dey drag am with aboki…
Ghettos areas we choke there…..

Yet we have the most brilliant minds, energetic,, resilient, determined people with so much potential looking for the right and enabling environment to thrive.

I’m not against whatever the government is spending but I crave for a change in the status quo of the beautiful people of Akwaibomites.

It’s just high time something is done…

We trust the present Government to do the best within their capacity. God bless Akwaibom”.
