...as group vows to resist
By Japheth Okon
As the selection of supervisors at the local government councils continues to stir dust across Akwa Ibom State, youths of Nsit Ubium local government area where Gov Umo Eno hails from, have vowed to resist any attempt by anyone to circumvent the wishes of the majority of the stakeholders.
In a statement by Nsit Ubium Integrity and Governance Group (NUIGG), a copy of which was obtained by our paper, the duo of Akwa Ibom State Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP); Mr. Ibanga Brownson and the Chief Protocol to Gov. Umo Eno; Mr. Otobong Idemidiong were blamed for the impending political crisis in Ubium South Ward 2.
Parts of NUIGG’s statement which was signed by its President, Mr. Okon Akai read: “It is very unfortunate that 2027 politicking and horse trading have started. The PDP State Secretary, Ibanga Brownson is doing everything to bring down the influence of Obong Dan Akpan who is the Political Leader of Ubium South and Emmanuel Ibiok in order to pave the way for his House of Assembly ambition.
The first strategy is to cancel the name of their supervisory Councilor nominee, to make them irrelevant and discourage their followers in the next coming elections.
This political coup was strategized in collaboration with Chief Protocol to the Governor, Otobong Edemidiong, we as a Youth group has warned the duo to steer clear from Ubium South politicking”.
The group also expressed their confidence in their political leaders while also calling on the governor to intervene before things got out of hand.
“We have confidence in all our leaders, we declared total loyalty for them, we are calling on His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno to call Nsit Ubium caucus meeting to address these anomalies before it goes out of hand.
Since 1999, Ubium South has been the votes basket of PDP. This meddlesomeness by the duo will not be treated with kid gloves if such precedent is allowed to stand.
We pass a vote of confidence on Pastor Umo Eno, Obong Dan Akpan, Otuekong Emmanuel Ibiok, Mr. Victor Brown and other leaders in Ubium South”.
Efforts to speak to a former State and National Assembly member from the area, Rt. Hon Dan Akpan on the matter proved abortive as calls and text messages to his telephone number were not responded to.
