Just-In: Wild reactions trail Peter Obi’s N60m gifts to institutions

Why I visited the schools -Former Governor

By Ime Silas

Nigerians have continued to pour in their reactions following the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP); His Excellecncy, Mr. Peter Obi ‘s recent monetary donations to two tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

The former Anambra state governor had visited the Peter University, Achina in Anambra state during which he donated the sum of fifty million naira (N50,000,000.00) to the school.

He also, during his visit to the College of Nursing Sciences gave the sum of ten million naira (N10,000,000.00).

Speaking after the donations, the former governor noted via his post on his verified X App handle that his gestures were in line with his unwavering commitment to building a productive nation through encouragement and support to the critical sectors of the country’s economy.

According to Obi “In tune with my unwavering belief that health and education are veritable ways of pulling people out of poverty and that these sectors are critical to development in a New Nigeria, yesterday, I paid a visit to the Peter University, Achina, Anambra State, where I gave them my financial support of N50 million.

Thereafter, I visited the College of Nursing Sciences in Adazi Nnukwu, where I made an additional donation of N10 million.

“These visits and support gestures are in line with our unwavering commitment to building a productive nation, through encouragement and support in the critical sectors of health, education and poverty eradication.

I have constantly maintained that no nation develops without a healthy and educated workforce.

With Nigeria having a predominantly youthful population, we must continue to prioritize the future of our youths by investing in these critical areas.

By so doing, we will build a nation of healthy and educated citizens who are productively contributing to the growth and development of the nation.

I extend my gratitude to the Proprietors, Management, Staff, and Students of both Peter University and the College of Nursing Sciences for their contributions to our health and education sectors.

I remain confident that a New and Productive Nigeria is Possible. -PO”

Reacting to the gestures Nigerians who trooped to the Social Media platform expressed their gratitude, most of whom noting that the former Anambra governor would have served Nigeria better.

  • He didn’t embezzle state funds
  • He didn’t setup any SPV to funnel portions of state funds to himself. -Diji O
