…as investigative team storms EFCC, ICPC Monday
An Investigative journalist, Fejiro Oliver said his team would be going to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related offences Commission (ICPC) in Abuja on Monday, to submit documents and petition for the anti-graft agencies to probe the immediate-past governor of Akwa Ibom State, Deacon Udom Emmanuel.
Udom, a banker-turned politician, governed the oil-rich state from May 29, 2015 to May 29, 2023.
Revealing his plans, Oliver said no governor who ruled any of the south south states between 2015 and 2023 would be allowed to go scot free without accounting for the huge money that came in within that period.
While giving a tip of his findings in Akwa Ibom State where he accused the former governor of allegedly diverting huge funds, the journalist hinted that indigenes of the state would weep to discover the many corrupt practices that went on in the state within the period.
He said “Dear Akwa Ibomites, Liberation is on the way.
When I called on EFCC to probe former Gov. Ben Ayade, guess what he told me.
Ayade said I should leave him alone first and start my petition and call for probe with my own state governor and his colleague Ifeanyi Okowa, then he will know I’m not out to witch hunt him.
That was when I took up that challenge and petitioned my own governor with documents.
Dear Akwa Ibomites, in the past two weeks, my team and I have been going through heaps of documents that detailed so many corrupt practices of immediate past Governor Emmanuel Udom,
You will weep for Ibom Air purchase. You will cry to know that over N150 billion was withdrawn in cash in the spate of eight years in the name of paying security agencies by hand. You will weep on how VKS was used in very corrupt manner.
You will cry on the monumental fleecing of the state in the last administration.
On Monday, my team will be going to EFCC and ICPC with those documents and petitions, so that he can be called to answer for the over N700 billion diverted funds in the state. If you are an Akwa Ibomite based in Abuja, who hate the way the state was governed despite the over N4 trillion that came to the state from FAAC, Ecological funds, IGR and borrowing, DM me to join them and be part of history.
No Governor in South South who has served from 2015 to 2023 should go scot free, after looting the oil money meant for development”.
As at the time of this report, neither Udom Emmanuel’s successor – Pastor Umo Eno, nor any member of his cabinet members had ever accused or indicted the immediate-past governor of embezzling any money meant for the state.
