The member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency and Chairman, Public Procurement Committee, Rep. Unyime Idem, has launched and distributed the first batch of electric, non-fuel motorcycles to his constituents.
An electric motorcycle is a two-wheeled plug-in electric vehicle, with its power supplied by a rechargeable battery. It has a powerful engine and a large battery pack and can reach a high speed and a long mileage, depending on the level of power after being charged.
This initiative, according to the lawmaker, is to help cushion the biting effect of the economy in the federal constituency, as beneficiaries will not need to buy fuel for the electric motorcycle, as it only needs to be charged and driven.
“You can charge the motorcycle anywhere, just like you would charge your phone, then drive it. It is very efficient and can take you for days when fully charged, depending however on your mileage.”
Launching the electric motorcycles at the Unyime Idem Empowerment Centre, Barracks road, Ukanafun local government area, Rep. Idem said the beneficiaries will be able to save as much as 1.8 million naira annually, which they hitherto used to buy fuel for their fuel-driven motorcycles.
“As a businessman, I’ve done the calculation. An average conventional motorcycle owner spends ₦5000 on fuel daily, in one month, that’s ₦150,000, and 1.8 million naira annually. So this non-fuel electric motorcycle will help beneficiaries save this amount, and can use it for some other meaningful venture.”
“Another important benefit of the non-fuel motorcycle is that it is noiseless and eco-friendly, as it does not emit hazardous smoke into the atmosphere.”
Rep. Idem promised that distribution of the next batch of of the eco-friendly motorcycles will commence soon, with more constituents expecting to benefit from the gesture.
Beneficiaries, including commercial motorcyclists, civil servants, businesses people, clergymen, traditional rulers, among others, expressed sincere gratitude to the federal lawmaker for choosing them to be partakers of the first phase of the initiative, saying the gift will help them save the fuel money, for other meaningful projects.
Stakeholders in Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, who spoke at the event, applauded Rep. Idem for his relentless efforts to put smiles on the faces of his constituents through his numerous empowerment programmes, projects, facilitation of employment into Federal Ministries, Departments, Agencies and institutions, as well as distribution of food and other items during the Yuletide.
They pledged their continuous support and loyalty to the lawmaker, praying that God will keep elevating him to greater offices and responsibilities.
