Governor Umo Eno And The N10m Largesse To The Edo Girl

The Best Graduating Student of the University of Uyo was given a paltry N35,000 as reward in recent history, but our Governor recently rewarded a girl from Edo State with N10M just for pronouncing big English words.

Was Governor Umo Eno not aware of the enviable feat of the UNIUYO best graduating student?

How many Governors of other States have ever rewarded Akwa Ibom people for recording ground-breaking achievements? What’s the big deal in pronouncing English words?

I am one of Governor Umo Eno’s supporters, but I will be risking my reputation and compromising my own principles if I see him doing petty things and I refuse to criticize him, even if constructively.

Our Governor had no justification to give N50,000 as business grants to unemployed Akwa Ibom graduates, only to turn around and give a whopping N10M to a young girl from another State for pronouncing jaw-breaking English words.

What is there to cheer? Why give Akwa Ibom State money to outsiders when there are so many indigenes of the State that are in need of financial assistance and reprieve?

Who is advising our governor?

The best way to advertise your leadership credentials to Nigerians isn’t by acting as Father Christmas and doing eye Service to those outside the State.

You have to work in our State, build strategic projects in our State, enhance the livelihoods and living standard of our people, and have concrete and verifiable projects on ground, which we, your supporters, can advertise to the outside world and let them know your leadership credentials and capacity.

Charity must always begin at home. You were not voted by Edo State indigenes. You were voted by Akwa Ibom people and they have to be the main focus and target of your leadership benevolence and goodwill.

Sycophancy and hypocrisy are some of the biggest threats to leadership in our Country. It’s annoying and shameful to see some Akwa ibomites hailing the Governor for what is a clear case of Robbins Peter to pay Paul.

Let me pronounce NKUKUMKPOYORIYO which is arguably the longest word in IBIBIO language and let’s see how much our Governor will give to me.

Pastor Umo Eno cannot tell us that he values ENGLISH more than IBIBIO, otherwise we will have to call his integrity and credibility as a leader into question.

May God grant wisdom and tact to His Excellency!!!
