A former President of Nigeria, His Excellecncy, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR has described Ghana as a model of democracy in the West African subregion.
The former Nigerian leader who stated this in a post he made available on his verified social media handles while on an Election Observer mission in Ghana today, wished the Ghanaians peaceful and successful elections.
The Post which he tagged ‘Election Day In Ghana reads “As polls opened today across Ghana’s 16 regions, we, as members of the West African Elders Forum (WAEF), visited polling stations in Accra, the capital city, to observe the progress of the nation’s 2024 general elections.
We wish the Republic of Ghana peaceful and successful elections in line with its reputation as a model of democracy in the sub-region”.
Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was deputy governor in Bayelsa state from 1999. His boss, Late Diepreye Alamieyeseigha was convicted in London on charges bordering on corruption and money laundering.
Goodluck Jonathan became governor of Bayelsa state following the later impeachment of Diepreye Alamieyeseigha.
In 2007, GEJ emerged Nigeria’s Vice President deputizing President Umaru Musa Yar’dua. Upon the death of President Yar’dua in 2010, Goodluck Jonathan became Nigeria’s President.
He contested and won the 2011 presidential election on the platform of People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
In 2015, GEJ lost his reelection bid to President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
