Federal Govt receives 1st batch of 2,000 Tractors from Belarus

The federal government has received first batch of 2,000 tractors from Belarus, fulfilling President Bola Tinubu’s directive to revolutionize agricultural activities in the country.

The heavy-duty equipment arrived in Nigeria and has been assembled in Abuja.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, described this development as a milestone that reaffirms the government’s commitment to modernizing agriculture, increasing productivity, and ensuring food security for all Nigerians.

The Minister expressed satisfaction with the progress of the Nigeria-Belarus mechanization partnership, which was formalized in September 2024.

As part of this initiative, 2,000 tractors will be deployed, each accompanied by 9,072 assorted agricultural implements designed to support a variety of farming operations.

To maximize impact, the tractors will be distributed through three key schemes: direct purchase for individuals and organizations wishing to acquire them outright, a leasing scheme that offers affordable access to mechanization without the full costs of ownership, and a service provider model that establishes tractor service centers in farming communities, enabling smallholder farmers to lease tractors as needed.
