Cyberstalking, Defamation: Gov Umo Eno’s aide retracts posts, apologizes to couple 

 

 

A Media Aide to Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Godwin Edet has retracted an earlier defamatory Facebook (also known as Meta) post he made against a lecturer with the Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic, Uyo; Mr. Ndiana Okon Asuquo and tendered an unreserved apology.

Recall that Godwin Edet had penultimate week published on his timeline and other platforms, a story with photographs and videos in which he accused Ndiana of domestic violence against the wife, Mrs. Jean Ndiana. Mr. Godwin was arrested by men from the State Headquarters of the Nigeria Police, Akwa Ibom State Command.

But in a retraction he personally signed and published on his timeline and other platforms, the governor’s aide expressed his deep regret, noting that he was really sorry for the embarrassment the post had caused the poly lecturer, his wife and members of his family.

Full details of the apology read thus:

“PUBLIC APOLOGY

I, Godwin Edet, Personal Aide to the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State on New Media, sincerely and unreservedly apologize to Mr. Ndiana Asukwo Okon – a lecturer with the Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic, for a post I made on Meta, in which I accused him of domestic violence against his wife, Mrs. Jean Ndiana.

 

 

Upon further reflection and verification, I acknowledge that the allegations were entirely damaging to Mr. Okon’s reputation even as the said Meta post has caused unnecessary distress to him, his family, and all those affected.

I deeply regret any harm the Meta may have caused and take full responsibility and do hereby retract my earlier statement in its entirety and urge the public to disregard it.

I sincerely apologize to Mr. Ndiana Okon, his wife, and his family for any pain or embarrassment my post may have caused. Once again, I am truly sorry.
