BRICS: Nigeria thrives on collaboration, not exclusion -Presidency

…as Presidential spokesperson highlights President Tinubu’s leadership approach, BRICS partnership

This morning, Dr. Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Media & Policy Communications, shared profound insights on matters of national importance during his appearance on Channels TV’s flagship programme, Sunrise Daily.

Speaking on Nigeria’s engagement with the BRICS economic bloc, The Presidential Spokesperson reassured Nigerians, saying, “Nigeria’s non-membership in BRICS won’t put the country at risk, as there are currently no decisions made by the bloc that would jeopardize Nigeria’s interests.” He emphasized that Nigeria benefits from its status as a partner member, which allows the nation to actively collaborate in areas such as food security, climate change, infrastructure, agriculture, trade, and investment. The administration’s flexible engagement engenders multilateral relationships and driving investments in crucial sectors.

On President Tinubu’s governance style, Dr. Bwala praised the President’s consultative approach, describing it as a hallmark of teamwork and inclusion. “Those who have observed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s conduct and demeanor towards the relationship with governors will certainly believe that he values teamwork over a one-man show,” he noted. By involving governors in official trips, President Tinubu ensures their active participation in fostering mutual growth and attracting foreign investment to their states. This collaborative strategy not only unifies the nation but also accelerates economic progress at subnational levels.

He also addressed recent remarks by UK opposition leader Kemi Badenoch, calling her criticisms of Nigeria a calculated attempt to appeal to her far-right base. He remarked, “Kemi Badenoch’s constant criticism of Nigeria appears to be a calculated attempt to appease her far-right base rather than a genuine concern for the country’s well-being. As the leader of the opposition in the UK, her party has just lost government, and it seems she’s trying to market herself to the conservative electorate by perpetuating negative stereotypes about Nigeria.”

He reiterated that Nigeria’s progress under President Tinubu’s leadership is driven by a commitment to collaboration, mutual respect, and sustainable growth. He highlighted the President’s ability to position Nigeria on the global stage, ensuring that the country benefits from international partnerships while addressing critical domestic issues.

Dr. Bwala’s remarks underline a forward-looking vision for Nigeria as a resilient and inclusive nation poised to harness its potential through strategic leadership and global cooperation.
