According to Christopher Emah who posted on Ibom Sons and Daughters Facebook group, in the past students and pupils had fear for their teachers, but decried the unfortunate unfolding reverse.
Christopher Emah said “It’s disheartening to see the current state of discipline in our schools. In the past, students and pupils had a healthy fear of their teachers, which was reinforced by parents who would report misbehavior. This fear motivated students to apologize to their parents before the issue escalated.
However, nowadays, students seem to have no regard for authority, disobeying both teachers and parents. This lack of discipline is a significant contributor to the nuisance we see in our society.
What’s disturbing is that a student who assaults a teacher likely has a history of similar behavior at home. Yet, when teachers attempt to discipline these students, parents often respond with phrases like, “Don’t touch my child!” or “How dare you beat my son?”
We’re trying to adopt Western education systems, but we’ve forgotten that what works for one culture may not work for another. Teachers don’t derive pleasure from disciplining students, but when they do, it’s often because they genuinely want the student to succeed and improve.
I pity the parents of the student who assaulted the teacher, and I fear that the school management may not take adequate action. It’s appalling, especially considering the meager compensation teachers receive as salary”.
