Amotekun foil robbery on Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode Expressway, kill One, arrest others

Operatives of the Ogun State Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, in the early hours of Sunday intercepted a gang of armed robbers on the Odogbolu corridor of the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode Expressway, leading to a deadly confrontation that left one suspect dead and two others arrested.

The operation, led by Brigadier General Alade Adedigba (retd.), thwarted what could have been a major heist on the busy highway. Among those captured was 27-year-old Amechie Okoro, who had been released from Ikoyi Prison just a week ago. His arrest, along with that of his accomplice, Michael Oko, provided security operatives with vital intelligence on their criminal network.

During interrogation, Okoro confessed that he had been recruited into the gang by their fugitive ring leader, Awuha, shortly after his release from prison. Acting on his confession, Amotekun operatives raided their hideout, capturing another fleeing suspect and recovering stolen items, including 12 different phones, two locally made pistols, N113,050 in cash, and a motorcycle with Lagos registration number KTU 668.

The Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode Expressway has long been a target for highway robbers, but Amotekun has remained vigilant in its mission to protect the people of Ogun State. Brigadier General Adedigba reassured the public that criminals would find no safe haven.

“This operation is a warning to all criminals. We will find you, and we will bring you to justice,” he said.

With investigations still ongoing, the arrested suspects will be handed over to the police for prosecution, while security agencies continue their hunt for the notorious Awuha and other members of the gang.

With latest achievements, Amotekun has once again proven that in Ogun State, crime has no hiding place.
