Alleged Fraud: Ex-Akwa Ibom gov, Udom still with EFCC

EFCC vilifying our former governor -Umo Eno

By our correspondent

The governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno has absolved his predecessor, Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel of any wrong doing during his eight years tenure as governor of the state.

Governor Umo Eno who was quoted to have stated this today on the sidelines of a Town Hall meeting held in Abak, also accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, of vilifying the former governor.

The Akwa Ibom governor further noted that there was no truth in the claims of missing money in the state during Udom Emmanuel’s tenure, maintaining that the former banker served the state meritoriously.

Dismissing the reports that Udom Emmanuel was arrested, Pastor Eno hinted that the former governor was only invited by the anti-graft agency and had since returned home.

But refuting Gov Umo Eno’s submissions, Mr Fejiro Oliver of the Network Against Corruption and Trafficking, NACAT, insisted that Udom Emmanuel was arrested and was still at the EFCC.

In his latest post on his social media handles, Fejiro said “Day 4: Former Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel still in EFCC custody. Ignore their lies that he’s out”.

Recall that Udom Emmanuel was on the 4th of March reported to have been arrested by the EFCC.

The anti-graft agency has yet to issue a statement on the reported arrest and detention of Udom Emmanuel. There was also no response to inquiries made by our paper seeking a clarification on the matter.
