Enugu Police Command has released the photograph of its officer who killed male traditional Ogene musician, Okezie Chikezie Mba, popularly known as Igbo-Jah.
According to the police, the musician was reportedly leaving the Squad’s Headquarters after a friendly visit when, for reasons yet to be ascertained, the police officer identified as Inspector Ozonwanji Joseph, fired his rifle, hitting the victim on October 25. The musician was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead by the attending doctor. Ndukwe said his body has been deposited in the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The member representing Enugu North and South Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Chimaobi Sam had described Okezie’s killing as unacceptable.
Hon Chimaobi in a statement while calling on his constituents to remain calm said:
“The killing of Mr. Okezie Mba, aka Igbo-Jah, is unacceptable. The Nigeria Police must make sure that justice is done and seen to have been done.
Just last week, a young man was murdered in Enugu under a very controversial circumstance. Just as we are trying to process and that, then this.
As a people, we can’t continue to lose our young men and women in this horrible manner.
“This terrible incidents have further provoked our collective resolve that the policing system in this country must change and very fast too.
While we call on Ndi Enugu, especially the youth to be calm and law abiding, Enugu State Police Command should make sure the killers are held to account.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the immediate family, friends and fans at this difficult time.
As Federal lawmakers , we shall watch these cases closely to see that justice is done. Enough of this”.
