Sen Shehu Sani lampoons FG’s N45,000 Minimum Wage Proposal

…says it’s a recipe for poverty

Former Senator Shehu Sani, known for his outspoken views, has slammed the Federal Government’s proposed N45,000 minimum wage as “grossly inadequate” and “a recipe for poverty”. In a recent ARISE TV interview, Sani emphasized that no Nigerian worker can survive on less than N100,000, given the country’s harsh economic reality.

Sani’s comments come at a time when organized Labour and the federal government are locked in a heated dispute over the minimum wage. Labour unions have been pushing for a higher minimum wage to reflect the country’s current economic conditions, and Sani’s stance aligns with their demands.

“The proposed N45,000 minimum wage is a joke, and the Federal Government knows it,” Sani said. “How can a worker survive on such a meager amount when the cost of living is skyrocketing? It’s time for the government to stop playing politics with people’s lives and prioritize their welfare.”
