…State Governments, Police keep sealed lips
Suspected Pirates have kidnapped no fewer than 20 Passengers including a popular comedian in Akwa Ibom State, and the boat driver along the Oron-Calabar waterways.
The Passengers who were aboard a boat owned by the Akwa-Cross Boat Management Ltd, was said to have been hijacked close to the Calabar waterways.
The incident which happened last Friday, April 18, 2025, have left families of the kidnapped passengers dejected, as all effort to reach their loved ones have proved abortive.
It’s almost seven days since the family have been seeking answers and effort to find out the whereabout of their loved ones have proved abortive.
Reports from some local fishermen indicate that incidences like this have become rampant on the Oron-Calabar waterways, raising questions of how secured and safe the nation’s waterways are. Some family members say they have received calls from unknown persons requesting for ransom of not less than N100m.
As at the time of this report, neither the police nor the governments of Akwa Ibom and Cross River States have issued any official statement on the incident.
Meanwhile, efforts are on to get more facts from the police commands in the two sister states.
