Due to her inability to give birth to male children, a widow, Mrs. Glory Effiong Brownson has been allegedly thrown out of her late husband’s house at Mbioto 1 in Etinan local government area of Akwa Ibom State.
Also chased out were her two daughters, Blessing and Mfonobong Effiong Brownson who are sixteen and ten years old, respectively.
According to the physically traumatized woman, the alleged culprits, Mr. Anietie Edet Aaron and Emem Edet Aaron who are his late husband’s relatives, have threatened to deal with her and her children should they ever set their feet on the compound.
Narrating her ordeal, the widow said “My name is Mrs. Glory Effiong Brownson I got married to my late husband in 2007. Our first daughter was born in 2009 and she is now 16 years old, while our Second daughter came in 2015, and is now 10 years of age.
My husband hailed from Ikot Ekpeyak Ikono in Uyo Local Government area.
When my late husband and I began our early years of marriage, we lived in his maternal grandmother’s village which is Mbioto 1, in Etinan Local Government Area, and in the course of our marriage, my husband acquired a land sometime in 2012 there (Mbioto 1).
We both struggled together and built the house at Mbioto 1. After a while, my husband’s sister, Emem Edet Aaron and her son, Anietie Edet Aaron started visiting our house. At some point, my husband began to express his not being comfortable with their visit.
I initially did not take my husband’s complaints about their uninvited visitations seriously until my husband became ill. I suffered with my husband throughout those years of his illness till he died in 2020”.
On how and why she and her two daughters were thrown out of the house, Mrs. Glory said the duo of Anietie and Emem came, even before the burial of her husband and fought her in her house.
She said “Immediately after my husband died, Mr. Anietie Edet Aaron and Emem Edet Aaron came to the house threatened me, fought me, claiming that I never loved my husband otherwise I would have given birth to a male child.
They mounted so much threats and dispossessed me and my daughters of my late husband’s house. They carted away all documents relating to the property. They forced us out of the property, leaving us stranded, and since then, the upkeep of myself and my daughters are but trends of ugly and sad stories.
“They further told me that their family and tradition will never allow me and my daughters to live, possess or claim anything that belonged to my late husband because of my not birthing a male child into the family”.
When asked of what she had made to recover the property, she responded: “I reported this issue to my late husband’s family who had made several attempts to meet with them with a view to calling them to order.
But, the family’s efforts seem to bear no fruits as they (Anietie and Emem) are further threatening to deal with whoever comes to interfere.
“He (Anietie) has since assumed unlawful possession and ownership, renting out some of those apartments and raising structures from the money he collected from the property and claiming that it is his house.
Till date he is still fuming threats against me and my stranded daughters for no just cause.
We are seriously in pains, tears, fears and in search of justice and at this time calling on the Public and Government to come to our rescue because the situation is getting out of hand as we may be killed and the story covered up by them”
Efforts to speak to the alleged culprits on the matter were unsuccessful as they were said to be unavailable when our Correspondents visited the said compound at Mbioto 1.
