“For the Ijaw Nation, the Niger Delta, and Nigeria as a whole, Pa Clark’s passing is an irreplaceable loss. His voice, which once echoed with authority in the corridors of power, will be sorely missed. However, while we grieve, we must also celebrate his remarkable life—a life filled with purpose, sacrifice, and an unrelenting commitment to justice” – Hon. Kpokpo
A TRIBUTE TO A NATIONAL ICON: Pa CHIEF EDWIN KIAGBODO CLARK
It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that I, Hon. Comr. Tamuno Kpokpo, mourn the passing of an extraordinary leader, a fearless advocate for justice, and a towering figure in Nigeria’s socio-political landscape, Pa Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark. His demise at the age of 97 marks the end of an era, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be etched in the annals of our nation’s history.
Pa Edwin Clark was not just an elder statesman; he was a beacon of hope, a symbol of resilience, and an unwavering voice for the marginalized. As a former Federal Commissioner for Information, a prominent South-South leader, and the Leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), he dedicated his life to championing the rights of the Niger Delta people and advocating for justice, equity, and national unity.
His leadership transcended regional interests, as he played a critical role in shaping Nigeria’s political and economic policies. His fearless advocacy for resource control, environmental justice, and the development of the Niger Delta region was a testament to his deep love for his people and the country at large. Pa Clark’s contributions to Nigeria’s growth and democratic development will remain an inspiration to generations to come.
Pa Clark’s unwavering commitment to the ideals of fairness and good governance earned him the respect and admiration of all who encountered him. He was a man who stood firmly on the side of truth, regardless of the opposition he faced. His courage in speaking against injustice and his relentless pursuit of equity set him apart as a statesman of the highest order.
He was not merely a leader; he was a father figure to many, a mentor who nurtured young minds, and a guide whose wisdom shaped the course of many political and socio-economic movements. His impact extended beyond politics—he was a unifier, a peace advocate, and a strong pillar in the fight for a better Nigeria.
For the Ijaw Nation, the Niger Delta, and Nigeria as a whole, Pa Clark’s passing is an irreplaceable loss. His voice, which once echoed with authority in the corridors of power, will be sorely missed. However, while we grieve, we must also celebrate his remarkable life—a life filled with purpose, sacrifice, and an unrelenting commitment to justice.
On behalf of my supporters, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Clark family, the government and people of Delta State, and the entire nation. As we mourn, let us also draw strength from his legacy, remaining steadfast in our pursuit of a just, equitable, and prosperous Nigeria.
Pa Edwin Clark, you fought the good fight. You finished your race with honor, leaving an indelible mark on our hearts and history. Your selfless commitment to the Niger Delta and Nigeria will forever inspire us. As we bid you farewell, we take solace in the knowledge that your ideals will continue to guide us in our quest for justice, development, and national unity.
Rest in peace, dear father of the Ijaw Nation. Your legacy will never fade.
Signed:
