List of Commissioners nominees
The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has received a list of 27 nominees from Governor Umo Eno for confirmation as Commissioners and Special Advisers. The nominees include notable figures such as Uko Essien Udom, Elder Aniekan Umanah, Princess Emem Ibanga, and Rt. Hon. Nsikak Ekong, among others.
The Governor’s message, dated February 10, 2025, was read on the floor of the House by Clerk Mrs. Nsikak Abasi Orok during Tuesday’s plenary session. The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, has mandated the House Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Public Petitions to screen the nominees and report back within one week.
In other developments, the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has called for the restoration of solar-powered street lights along major roads in Uyo Metropolis. This move aims to address the current blackout and increase in criminal activities in the area.
The House has also passed a Motion to curb illegal motor parks in Uyo Metropolis. The resolution calls for the renovation and modernization of government-owned motor parks and enforcement of existing laws against illegal motor parks.
Furthermore, the House considered a Motion on ensuring compliance with environmental laws and regulations by oil and gas companies operating in the state.
The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has adjourned its plenary session until Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 10:00 am.
