I fondly called her Ify
A seasoned banker whom I have known for over a decade
It was today 14th, Jan 2025 that I learnt that she was Kidnapped since 13th Dec 2024
Yesterday, news of a banker who was kidnapped and ransom paid twice and the victim still kiilled went viral
Little did I know that she was someone close and dear to me, until this afternoon, while in my office, Polaris bank was mentioned by someone and said they are mourning
I asked mourning who? He said a staff kidnapped, but kpaid after ransom was paid
I thus decided to inquire who the person was
I put a call to one of the branch manager who confirmed that it was Ify
I was shattered and traumatized
Ify was a dedicated banker and one of the oldest staff of the bank…a beautiful, cheerful, ever smiling soul
Each time I stepped into the bank, Ify welcomed me with her contagious smile and hailed; “My honorable, onye nkem”. Always approachable and ready to attend to her customers with dedication and compassion
I heard just today that she was promoted to a branch manager recently and that she celebrated the elevation
Who did Ify offend?
Why does bád things happen to good people?
Ify often minded her business and had no time for inanities
A contented lady from a responsible and comfortable family

May the perpetrators of this dastardly act know no peace
May God judge everyone accordingly, because whether we like it or not, we all must give accounts of our actions and inactions here on earth
To those responsible for the security of life and property of the people, nakwa echeki…na agbako nu…the number of eviils and crimes are increasing on daily basis
I don’t know how we get here, where we no longer recognize the sanctity and sacredness of life
