The Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator (Dr) Akon Eyakenyi, hosted political stakeholders of Oron Local Government Area, Saturday in her country home in Oron town.

She noted that their support was well-founded as the Governor has kept faith with the area by addressing some of the problems which caused them serious pain in the past, emphasizing that all problems can’t be solved in one fell swoop.

According to her, such efforts included the construction of the long-neglected Uyo- Nsit Atai -Okobo – Oron Road, provision of ferry for the Oron-Calabar Waterways, construction of a new jetty and transformation of Oron Beach into a tourist site as well as the model school in Uko Uyukim, assuring that more projects were underway in the 2025 budget.

“In consultation with other leaders seated here with me, I decided to invite you this new year as a way of appreciating your steadfast loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and unwavering support for His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD.

“Looking at what he has done for Oron Local Government Area in less than two years in office, I can boldly say that your support is not misplaced. Today, some of the problems that caused us pain and tears have been solved.

The truth is, it is impossible to do everything in one day. As the administration continues to unfold, more will be done by the Governor.” She assured.

Speaking further, she expressed optimism that the Uyo- Nsit Atai -Okobo -Oron Road would be completed within the year while the model school was at the furnishing stage and ready for commission.

On political appointments, she said the appointment of Personal Assistants to the Governor in all the Wards has greatly benefitted the area, disclosing that more people from the grassroots would be appointed Supervisors, Community Watch operatives and members of Boards.

She used the opportunity to intimate the stakeholders of the plans of government, especially the forthcoming town hall meetings in the ten federal constituencies and the 2025 budget, saying the Governor was determined to take government to the grassroots.

Senator Eyakenyi also used the occasion to commend the Member Representing Oron/Mbo/Okobo/Udung Uko/Urueoffong/Oruko Federal Constituency, Rep. Martins Esin for his stellar performance in less than two years as a Legislator, describing him as a son in whom she is well pleased.

She particularly lauded his empowerment programmes and the generous Christmas gifts he recently extended to stakeholders, urging him to keep up the spirit.

The Deputy Governor also scored the Executive Chairman, Oron Local Government Council, Hon. (Chief) Okon Asukwo Enweme high, especially in the areas of security, human management and environmental sanitation, saying in just two months in office, he has demonstrated capacity for leadership.
