Why I donated one-storey building to Western Annang School – Hon Idem

The member representing Oruk Anam/Ukanafun Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Rt. Hon Unyime Idem wrote:

Earlier today, I laid the foundation for the construction of a one-storey building for Administrative Block and a Classroom Block at Western Annang Secondary Commercial School (WASCO) in Ukanafun local government area.

This is in fulfillment of the promise I made during the school’s 50th anniversary in December 2023, that I will construct and donate some infrastructure to the school to give it facelift it deserves.

WASCO, a popular secondary school in Ukanafun local government area and Annang land, has produced prominent sons and daughters within and outside the locality, including myself.

The school, established in 1972, has suffered neglect from several local and state government administrations, while promises to fix it by past leaders have failed.

It was on this note that I decided to give back to the school that moulded me, in order to restore WASCO back to its glory days as we used to enjoy it, back then.

I promised that with the cooperation of the contractor, school management and Ikot Akpa Nkuk community, the one-storey building for administrative block and the classroom block will be delivered in exactly four months and handed over to the school, with the classroom block equipped with writing desks.

I also promised that until I leave office, I will never abandon any project. I will ensure to complete every project I attract to my federal constituency.

In their remarks, the management of the WASCO, led by the Principal General, Elder Udeme Akpan and the chairman, Parents, Teachers Association (PTA) Elder Udobong Wilson, the alumni Association, led by a representative of the president, Ofonime Umanah, and the chairman of Ikot Akpa Nkuk village council, Chief Elijah Fred, expressed deep gratitude to me for coming back to impact the school that moulded me, assuring that my name will forever remain evergreen in the annals of the school’s history.

Recall that I donated a tastefully equipped ICT centre, installed street lights in the school premises and constructed the 1.2 km Akpan Assiek market road, where the institution is situated.
