‘…in an attempt to repel the assailants, a police escort inadvertently shot the governor’s sister’
The sister of the Taraba State Governor, Atsi Kefas, has succumbed to injuries sustained during a tragic incident in which she was accidentally shot by a police officer assigned to her security detail.
The shooting occurred along Kente Road in Wukari Local Government Area when gunmen attacked the governor’s family convoy. In an attempt to repel the assailants, a police escort inadvertently shot the governor’s sister.
Despite swift intervention by security forces, which facilitated her evacuation alongside her mother, Jumai Kefas, via air ambulance, Atsi Kefas passed away in the hospital after battling severe bullet wounds.
The governor’s family was traveling through an area increasingly plagued by banditry when the incident occurred. Security forces recovered the family’s vehicle and found an empty magazine and passenger luggage at the scene.
